Es el lema nacional de Espa\u00f1a, acu\u00f1ado por Carlos I de Espa\u00f1a (V de Alemania) quien lo utiliz\u00f3 como lema personal.<br \/>\nA su vez, Carlos I de fue animado por su consejero, el humanista milan\u00e9s Luigi Marliano a usarlo, pues el lema se utiliz\u00f3  para retar a los navegantes a desafiar y olvidar la antigua advertencia, que seg\u00fan la mitolog\u00eda romana, H\u00e9rcules hab\u00eda puesto en dos pilares en el Estrecho de Gibraltar, y se cre\u00eda que eran el l\u00edmite del Mundo, la \u00faltima frontera para los navegantes del Mediterr\u00e1neo.
